Baby Safety - A Priceless Love by Darryl Power

Chances are, you have been so busy anticipating your little one's arrival that you have overlooked one not-so-minor point: how you are going to protect him now that he is exposed to the outside world.

If before, your child feels so secure while inside your womb, the outside environment could really create a tremendous boost of changes.

What could hurt most than to see your baby in danger or in pain? Nothing strikes more fear into the heart of new parents than the mention of risk or danger brought about by their environment.

For this reason, parents are meticulous about the things and entities that their baby encounters every minute of their life. As much as possible, they would like to protect their babies even if it means getting paranoid or obsessed about it.

Generally, baby safety does not just deal with the usual way of keeping baby safe from harm. It also incorporates the parent's way of nurturing the love between them and their baby to protect them from harm's way.

To know more about baby safety, here are some pointers to look at:

1. SIDS safety

New parents are terrified with the fact that their baby can die any moment without causative factor. This is commonly seen on cases of sudden infant death syndrome or SIDS.

However, new research proves that putting infants to sleep on their backs and not on their stomachs, as previous generations did, greatly reduces the risk of SIDS.

Other important strategies are: Never smoke or allow people to smoke around your baby; do not use soft bedding like comforters or pillows that could cause baby's face to be buried; avoid overheating baby's bedroom; and breastfeed for as long as possible to build immunity to upper respiratory infections that may contribute to SIDS.

The biggest threat of SIDS occurs between 2 and 4 months of age. After that, you can relax a bit.

2. Choose baby's mattress

A crying baby's brain is bathed in stress hormones, while a sleeping baby's brain is bathed in growth hormones. And a newborn's brain has a lot of growing to do. In the first few months, it must create and reinforce almost 1,000 trillion synapses - the basic connections between the brain's nerve cells. Most of this brain development takes place during long intervals of sleep.

That is why pediatrician suggests specially designed mattresses. These specially designed mattresses move in random, butterfly motion that almost perfectly replicates the pelvic motions of a pregnant woman. The sounds of the beds are the actual, recorded sounds of a mom's heartbeat and the rush of amniotic fluid.

Most parents do not know that one of the most dangerous areas that threaten baby's safety is the bed. What they do not know is that babies, especially on the first few months of their lives, are greatly sensitive on their outside environment. Hence, it is important to exhibit gradual change by providing things that still resemble their mother's womb.

3. Buckle up for safety

Used properly, car seats, seat belts, and air bags are very effective in preventing death and serious injuries. Car seats can prevent fatalities and serious injuries. Car seats can prevent fatalities and serious injuries in approximately 70% of all crashes.

More than half, of the children who die in crashes would be alive. These things were shown in movies showing a baby riding home from the hospital in his mother's arms as she sits in the front seat. In the crash, if the mother is not belted, she and the baby will move forward together, and her body may crush the baby's against the dashboard.

Hence, it is best to buy the best car seat for your baby. It is the most effective thing you can do for your baby's safety.

Baby safety should never be underrated. It is not more on spending what you cannot afford. Just remember that a baby's life cannot simply be matched with what you have. Life matters most and there is no special discount for that.
